Dishwand

I ordered this Gourmet Easy Dish Wand to replace a plastic dish wand that we had. I thought the stainless steel looked nicer, and I liked the idea of having a stand for it. In my home, anything that can go in the dishwasher does, so the dish wand is used only for those few things that we have to hand wash and the rare occasion when something we need to use is dirty. For our needs, it works fine. The dish wand comes assembled, and the only thing you need to do is fill it with dish soap. The end pulls off rather than twists, and the opening is large, so it's easy to fill. The handle and clear plastic area under the sponge make up the reservoir, and it holds a good amount of soap. The stand is lightweight, and while it has non-slip pads on the base, it still slides a little on our granite counters. If I keep pressure on the top of the stand, where the wand rests, with my pinky finger and that side of my hand, I can remove and insert the wand into the stand using only one hand. The wand doesn't have a mark showing where it should be inserted into the stand, but there's an inch or so of the handle where it's the right size to fit. However, the closer you insert it to the clear plastic reservoir, the more horizontally the wand balances, which causes the sponge to hang over the tray/base. That was a little annoying at first, but we got used to knowing where to insert it so that it hangs more vertically and the sponge stays over the tray. The scrubber sponges work fine for our needs. The wand comes with one replacement sponge in the package, and the replacement pack of six is reasonably priced. The stainless steel handle does get a little slippery if my hands are wet or get wet while using it. The wand itself stays pretty nice-looking for being stainless steel. The stand, not so much, especially the parts that face the wand, including the base. Those have a mirror finish that shows fingerprints and water spots. The only other thing I'll mention is that the wand I received has a slight curve to the left and there's nothing I can do to adjust it. It doesn't affect how it works, I'm just a little OCD. Overall, this dish wand works well for the light use it gets in our home. There were some minor things to get used to and a couple of things I wish were different, but at $24.99, I think it's a reasonable price and much nicer looking than our plastic wand.

Knocked one star off for price. However you get what you pay for and as my mother said “buy the best you can afford”. It is heavy duty, metal and heavy duty plastic. Comes with 2 heads. When in use it does not fall apart like Minky branded equivalent. Transparent plastic head and shaft allow easy viewing of level of liquid inside. Has a easy open and seal cap that pulls off fitted with 2 seals to prevent leaks. Definitely recommend. Really happy with the purchase.

The Sponge itself is great. The wand looks nice and has a good feel to it, however it does not keep a clean appearance or stay easy to handle. It gets very slippery when in use and soap and water “run” off stay on the wand and stick out quite a bit more than on the plastic versions. The holder is a nice touch but is not stable and there isn’t enough space from the top the holds the wand to the bottom where the drain off is causing the sponge to sit either in or too close causing it to stay wet and slimy. The tray could use a little run of spout to keep it cleaner and help alleviate that issue. With a few tweaks this would be the perfect set. It looks good, handle easy to hold. Overall it’s a great sponge and wand. Just has a few minor issues that can become annoying and troublesome.

This is a nice dish wand overall. The stainless steel handle feels sturdy, the grip is comfortable, and I like the included holder for keeping it neat by the sink. My main concern is the cap on the handle. It doesn’t screw on—it simply pulls off and pushes back into place. It works fine now, but I worry that with repeated use it may eventually loosen and stop staying securely attached. A threaded cap would have made the design feel much more durable. Otherwise, it works well and looks nicer than a typical plastic dish wand. Do recommend.
